A Brazilian Blowout, Low Lights, & Clarifying Shampoo Question

A Brazilian Blowout, Low Lights, & Clarifying Shampoo Question

Happy Hump Day

Happy Hump Day and happy holidays gorgeous readers! I am back with another question and answer from AsktheProStylist. This week, Meagan has a query regarding the steps for a smoothing treatment, low lights, and when to use clarifying shampoo.

The Brazilian Blowout Question

Good Evening,

If I apply low lights before a Brazilian Blowout treatment do I still need to wash the hair before the Brazilian? If so, I assume I need to use a different shampoo than the Brazilian Blowout clarifying shampoo I normally use. I want to avoid stripping the color as much as possible.

Meagan

The Answer

Hi Meagan,

Thanks for reaching out. Your hairstylist will know exactly what to use based on the manufacturer’s directions.

Good luck.

The Reason for My Short Answer

Ah, where to begin? For starters, there is a lot to unpack with Meagan’s question. For instance, is she doing the Brazilian Blowout at home? And if so, what brand, or is she just packing all smoothing treatments under the brand name Brazilian Blowout? Additionally, is Meagan a hairstylist? My instincts tell me she is not. A licensed professional would know the steps and/or be aware that the manufacturers of all smoothing treatments, including Brazilian Blowout, list detailed steps for hair texture, density, and color scenarios.

Finally, her use of the term stripping leads me to believe she is not a practicing hairstylist. Professionals do not use the term, “stripping.” We say lightening or color removal. Bleach is for the laundry. I will never provide instructions or advice to use chemicals at home for the “kitchen-sink hairstylist.” I only advocate for professionals. Therefore, visit a salon for the best service and tip them well!
