Hairstylist Tips: 5 Notes Family & Friends of Hairstylists Should Know

The hairstylist tips that follow are for family and friends of the sexiest breed of people in the world. Yes, the hairstylist is sexy, not only because we take pride in our looks (most of the time-Sunday excluded), but also because we make you feel good about yourself, and confidence is uber sexy. However, every once in a while I like to remind family and friends that we have certain items that creep up that need to be addressed. Therefore, I have narrowed down 5 notes/issues/rules the family and friends of hairstylists should be aware of.

Happy Oscar Sunday! This is the Super Bowl for glamour and movie fans, and I cannot wait to receive all of my celebrity hairstyle how-to guides. Be sure to keep a lookout here for my favorite looks from Oscars Red Carpet.

But, as a subject came up Saturday, actually all day Saturday, I felt it was time to reiterate the way family and friends should treat the ones’ that keep them beautiful with 5 hairstylist tips you all should be aware of. This isn’t directed at any one person (my family), but I am sure hairstylists’ worldwide would agree on the following.

Hairstylist Tips: 5 Notes Family & Friends of Hairstylists Should Know

  1. Do not contact your hairstylist via text, call or Facebook message late at night or Sundays to make an appointment. When in doubt, think about if the salon is open, and use the business hours to ask hair related questions. This goes for hairstylists that work from home. They need a day off too, so imagine any salon’s hours and follow them.
  2. Don’t ask for hair advice when out socially. I know it’s hard when I am staring at your roots to not discuss your hair. However, if I haven’t mentioned it, then please don’t ruin dinner conversation with, “What color should I do?”
  3. Give back to your pro. This is one of the most important of the hairstylist tips, as service professionals should always receive some type of consideration. If you are family or friends, most definitely you are either receiving free or discounted services. And if the salon is in the house, you are paying at least half of what salons charge. Your mom, sister, or friend is literally saving you hundreds of dollars a year, and if he or she is in a salon, they are taking up a paying customer’s slot or staying late for you. Show your appreciation with a gift, a cup of coffee, a tip, sweep the floor, or at the very least a sign of gratitude at the holidays.
  4. Don’t ask for more of a discount or one for your friends. If you want the world done to your hair, don’t ask for more off an already discounted price, if you are even paying. And never ask for your family and friends to receive the same. That’s just rude.
  5. Don’t dye your hair with a second-rate box of hair color, ask your family or friend to fix it, and not want to pay what it would cost in the salon. Expect it to cost A LOT, and if they find it in their heart to discount, be grateful, because if you disrespected the pro with a salon service at home, you don’t deserve a discount. Period!
