Happy Monday gorgeous, and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s Hair Police column of the week! I haven’t seen any terrible hair or beauty faux pas as of late, so I am here to tout some really great news instead. The Hair Police isn’t just about the negative; when something wonderful is spotted it must be broadcast.
Today I begin the week with an amazing find on Long Island for impeccable hairstyling and color. As some of you are aware, I have been in search of a job. I took a temp position in a law firm, and although the work wasn’t my favorite, the people were.
Because the paralegal I covered for was headed back from maternity leave, I needed to find new employment. With trepidation, I took a “secretary” position at another firm for more money. My intuition was spot-on. One hour into the first day I was scratching at the door like a dog to get out. The 3 attorneys/misogynistic pigs didn’t want a secretary to assist the paralegal, they wanted a personal assistant to pay personal bills, return unwanted items their wives purchased from home, fetch coffee, and cater to whatever whims they had that altered from the list of daily responsibilities provided on day one.
They lied during the interview process, and weren’t forthright in the job requirements. Had they been, I would not have taken the job. There is nothing wrong with that type of work if that is what you seek, but it wasn’t what I was looking for or what I wanted.
It’s hard to venture from your chosen career path for the sake of money. But sometimes we need to make those choices, however reluctantly, to support our families. All was not lost because I received a call from a lovely woman that had my resume, and she answered my prayer.
I desperately wanted to return to hairstyling and color and was fortunate enough to be offered a position at Colour Bar, 93A North Park Avenue, Rockville Centre, NY 11570, (516) 255-9777. This is the hair position I have always dreamed of, and I don’t have to trek into the city to get it, the salon is close to home.
