Beach wedding hairstyles, in my opinion, are the epitome of bohemian beauty, and a favorite look of mine. Today’s Q&A comes from a friend that is having a destination wedding in the Bahamas, and wanted a few photos and a quick tutorial to create beach wedding hairstyles.

Whoop, whoop, happy Hump Day hotties, and welcome to Ask the Pro Stylist’s Wednesday question and answer column. A friend messaged me, wanting a few suggested beach wedding hairstyles for her upcoming nuptials. It’s a small gathering in the Bahamas, which is being kept on the down low, so she asked me to keep her anonymous and not tag her on social media. This is for you girl!

She didn’t want braids, but more of an organic feel to her wedding style, and asked me how to do beach waves. She is doing this herself and has fine to medium hair with a little bit of natural bend, slightly longer than the shoulders.

I compiled a few photos of what I feel exemplify the beach wedding hairstyles she is looking for. To complete the look her self, I suggest following the steps below. Knowing her hair the way I do, this will create gorgeous, natural looking waves, perfect for the islands.

Beach Wedding Hairstyles Guide:

  • Wash the hair with a volumizing shampoo (leave out conditioner).
  • Apply a leave-in conditioner that protects from the sun, such as Alterna Haircare’s Bamboo Beach Summer Sun Recovery Spray to towel-dried hair. (I love the fragrance.)
  • Rough dry the hair, leaving it about 25 percent damp.
  • Put the hair in a topknot, twisting the ponytail into a bun.
  • Eat breakfast, do makeup, nails etc.
  • Undo the hair and apply Bamboo Beach Summer Ocean Waves, and use your hands to scrunch it in the hair.
  • If not enough natural-looking waves have formed, you might need to touchup with a large iron, one-inch or more.
  • Do not wrap every piece of hair, but rather strategically grab one-inch section, and wrap the hair around the barrel, beginning midway down the hair shaft, leaving out the ends.
  • Flip the head over to gently loosen the curls with the fingers.
  • Apply Bamboo Beach Summer Shine Spray for added shine and sun protection, and finish with Matrix StyleLink’s Texture Builder Messy Finish Spray to hold the look in place.
