Straightening Fine Hairline Curls: Dos & Don’ts

Whoop, whoop! It’s Hump Day gorgeous! Happy Wednesday! I hope this finds you healthy and happy. As such, it is that time again to answer reader questions. This week’s Q&A with Ask the Pro Stylist focuses on straightening fine hairline curls.

MJ’s Question

Hello, I recently broke a few strands of hair in the front of my hair. When it’s humid, it curls right up. I can’t stand that! Lol – Any recommendations to keep it straight???

My Immediate Answer

Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to keep it straight. (But, I had more to add!)

My Detailed Answer

To begin, MJ basically answered her own question. Straightening the curly, fine hair around the hairline and brow breaks. The hair is fragile in that zone. In addition, using high heat will hurt it. As a result, breakage occurs. What’s more, with an increase in damage, the more likely it could be for the hairline to recede.

Dos

Do treat the fine hair around the hairline gently. If very curly use edging cream, paste or gel. Additionally, ask your stylist to recommend one for your hair texture and curl pattern. Also, use an edging tool or even a tooth brush to keep the hair down. However, if it is not too curly, blow it dry straight with the nozzle facing down toward the nose,on low heat and speed. Remember, blow dry the bang/hairline first. Then, pin the hair down with a little spray and a flat clip to keep in place as you continue styling. In addition, use frizz control hair products.

Don’ts

Avoid high heat and unnecessary stress. In addition, do not use an iron. If the hair is extra curly and coarse, then use a thin flat iron on heat no more than 350 degrees. Finally, don’t pull on the hair. Simply and gently run the hair through a flat iron.
