Happy Hairstylist Appreciation Day from Ask the Pro Stylist

Happy Hairstylist Appreciation Day! You may not be aware that April 30 is National Hairstylist Appreciation Day. Make a call, send a note or give your favorite hairstylist an extra tip as a gesture of gratitude today.

Whoop, Whoop, happy Hump Day hotties and Happy Hairstylist Appreciation Day! I know, I know, just because the Internet says it is it must be right, like with all of the erroneous National Dance Day posts today. To clarify, National Dance Day is the last Saturday in July and International Dance Day is April 29, not today, April 30. But today is Hairstylist Appreciation Day, and we stylists might not be able to fix stupid, but we can fix hair.

Wednesdays are generally dedicated to answering readers’ and clients’ questions, but today, for Hairstylist Appreciation Day, I’d like to thank one of my oldest and dearest friends, who happens to be an amazing hairstylist. I look forward to our play dates and always love my hair. Even if I want Lisa to do something she isn’t familiar or comfortable with, she knows I am the easiest client and trusts that I can explain how to do it. So thank you Lisa for being fearless keeping my hair beautiful.

The art of hairdressing dates as far back as the ancient Egyptians. Hairstylists had adorned cases that housed their specialized equipment. Slaves and servants styled, cut and dyed their masters’ heads in ancient Rome and Greece, and the art of wig making required the makers themselves become hairstylists.

There is a long tradition within the hair culture through the ages that vary between countries and now the modern hairstylist is esteemed as an artist, friend, confidant and therapist. Take time out today to thank your hairdresser for Hairstylist Appreciation Day.
