Every Friday I choose a hair, nails or skincare product I love, and sometimes hate, to help advise consumers if it lives up to the standards of beauty professionals. This week I bring you HAIRCHALK by L’Oréal Professionnel. I first received a few samples in April, near Coachella. I hadn’t sampled the temporary hair color until just recently and to be honest, was impressed.
Don’t be deceived by its name. The HAIRCHALK isn’t chalk or even a beauty product with a chalky texture that has been popular with young girls. The liquid turns hair into an immediate fashion accessory. It is a high-intensity, temporary hair color polish that delivers bright, bold color to the hair.

HAIRCHALK by L’Oréal Professionnel is available in 8 shades of 5 flashy hues and 3 natural tones: Sweet Sixteen Pink (used on Isabella), Fist Date Violet, Blue Ocean Cruise, Garden Party, Coral Sunset, Bronze Beach, Coffee Break and Black Tie. It can be used on all hair types, even on dark, however for true-to-tone vibrancy, pre-lightened hair shows off the color best. There is no color transfer, and it has a natural feel when applied, with no “chalky texture.” The HAIRCHALK by L’Oréal Professionnel lasts for 2-10 shampoos, however endurance varies depending on if the hair was pre-lightened or not.
The technology is simple: HAIRCHALK by L’Oréal Professionnel is a “revolutionary water-based ink and micro-fiber polymer formula, which creates an ultra-thin film that adheres to the hair fiber.” The kits come with the shade of your choice plus 8 applicators and instructions, which could be done by a salon professional for a customized look (recommended to demonstrate application) or for at-home use.
Isabella sat patiently as her sister had highlights done. While Victoria processed, I applied HAIRCHALK by L’Oréal Professionnel Sweet Sixteen Pink sporadically on the 10-year-old’s hair. She loved it and the applicator allowed for easy placement of the color on dry hair with no mess.
